Summer Camp FAQ
Q&A
1.Can I register my child for just one week during the Children's Camp or do I have to register for both?
Yes, you can register for one week or both; however, we highly recommend a two-week session for the most beneficial experience.

2.What is the daily schedule?

After the morning bell, and the usual morning routine, each day begins with prayer, breakfast, and clean up. The first event is the flag raising ceremony after which the rest of the morning is spent in various activities until noon. Lunch is followed by free time and swimming in Neringa pond (prūdas), an afternoon snack, and more group activities until dinner. The flag lowering ceremony is followed by an evening program which varies according to the theme of the day; sometimes the program is serious, sometimes humorous and playful, but, as with all Neringa activities, always meaningful.

3. How many daily meals are there?

There are three meals daily and two snacks plus an afternoon ice cream treat. We are conscious of serving nutritious meals and vigilant of children with food allergies. This is one reason we ask you not to bring food or candy to camp.

4. What are the usual daily activities?

Daily activities include aspects of Lithuanian heritage e.g. dancing, singing, folk art, history, current events and activities to provide a basic cultural understanding. There are nature classes, hikes, arts and crafts, woodworking, sports, games, swimming, drama, writing for the camp newspaper, character development discussions, time out for chats and being with friends. Campers participate together with their cabin or in age group as well as together with the entire camp.
5. Is the Neringa T-shirt for free or do you have to buy it?

Campers receive a Neringa T-Shirt for free on the first day of camp. More Neringa souvenirs can be purchased on the day of registration, at various events or on the online camp store "KrautuvÄ—lÄ—".

6. Can you explain how campers are arranged in the cabins?
There are 12 cabins. Each cabin has 5 bunk beds i.e. 10 campers; the children are grouped by age in their cabin. Each cabin has a counselor’s room for one or two counselors who live together with the campers. Each cabin has 2 sinks and a toilet; the shower facilities are separate.

7. Can campers call their parents? Or parents call campers?
The experience of being away from home and independent from parents builds character. Campers are not encouraged to call home but may do so if necessary. They ask the program coordinator’s permission and call from the administration building. Parents are also asked to refrain from calling unless there is a serious reason for doing so (family celebrations, etc.). Rather, the experience of getting letters is exciting so we encourage parents to write letters to their children. Mail is delivered and mailed daily!

8. Do you have Wi-Fi? Can I use my cell phone?

Yes, Neringa has limited Wi-Fi reception, however, cell phone use is strongly discouraged at Neringa during the Family/Adult camp sessions, and is not allowed during the Children’s/Youth camp sessions. Camp gives everyone the opportunity to un-plug, escape from modern distractions. Campers often express that freedom from cell phones is one of the best experiences! This is a wonderful opportunity for all to be technology-free, maximizes creativity in the children and creates a better camp experience for all.

9. If happens if a camper gets sick?

Neringa has a nurse or first aid provider on site at every session. If there is a serious injury or illness Neringa, the parents are notified and consulted, and if necessary, taken to the ClearChoiceMD Urgent Care in Brattleboro (15-20 min. from camp) or Brattleboro Memorial Hospital (20-25 minutes from camp).

10. What if the camper has to go to the bathroom or get sick during the night?
Each cabin has its own toilet and sink and there is always a counselor in the cabin. The children feel safe. If necessary, the counselor can take the camper to the infirmary where the nurse lives for further consultation.

11. Do you have a CIT or Leadership Program?

Yes, we do! We have a Counselor-In-Training (CIT) Program over the course of one camping session. This leadership program focuses on preparing our future counselors to become confident leaders. Application for CIT usually starts February 1st.
12. Do children really catch salamanders at Neringa?

Yes! Very true. The younger campers' favorite activity is free time by the pond (prūdas) catching fish, frogs and salamanders, being in nature and swimming.
